Bill Clinton brushes off ’20-year-old photos’ in Epstein files and says he wasn’t aware of sex trafficking

At the start of his Congressional deposition Friday, Bill Clinton addressed the trove of photos of himself with Jeffrey Epstein released by the Justice Department last year.

In opening remarks posted on social media, the former President said he didn’t have any knowledge of Epstein’s sex trafficking operation — despite anyone’s “interpretation of those 20-year-old photos.”

“I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing,” Clinton said of the convicted sex offender, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. “No matter how many photos you show me.”

Clinton posted the remarks ahead of his closed-door deposition in Chappaqua, New York, before members of the House Oversight Committee, which has been investigating Epstein’s connections to powerful people.

In December, in response to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the Justice Department released several photos showing Clinton with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for trafficking girls to Epstein for sex. The photos show Clinton and Maxwell swimming together in a pool, along with a woman whose face is redacted. They also show Clinton in what appears to be Epstein’s private jet with a female, whose face is redacted, on his lap.

The photos also show Bill and Hillary Clinton at parties and dinners with Epstein.

The former president has long maintained he had no knowledge of Epstein’s sexual abuse. Epstein occasionally visited the White House while Clinton was president, and Clinton has said he traveled internationally with Epstein on his private jet four times between 2002 and 2003, following his presidency, for Clinton Foundation initiatives. There’s no indication the two were still in contact by the time Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in Florida in 2008.

“As someone who grew up in a home with domestic abuse, not only would I not have flown on his plane if I had any inkling of what he was doing — I would have turned him in myself and led the call for justice for his crimes, not sweetheart deals,” Clinton said in the opening statement of his deposition.

Maxwell appeared to have her own relationship with the Clintons.

She worked to obtain funding for the Clinton Global Initiative, records released by the Justice Department show. Maxwell also said in an interview with Justice Department Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche last year that she was closer to Clinton than Epstein was.

“President Clinton was my friend, not Epstein’s friend,” she said.

“President Clinton liked me, and we got along terribly well. But I never saw that warmth, or however you want to characterize it, with Mr. Epstein — so I didn’t see that,” Maxwell said in her interview. “I didn’t see President Clinton being interested in Epstein. He was just a rich guy with a plane.”

Bill Clinton’s deposition on Friday follows Hillary Clinton’s on Thursday. She said she didn’t think she ever met Epstein. She has said she met Maxwell on “a few occasions” in social settings.

Republicans on the House Oversight Committee said they would publicly release videos of the depositions of Bill and Hillary Clinton, as they did with a deposition of Les Wexner, the billionaire founder of L Brands, who previously hired Epstein as a financial fixer.

Clinton’s deposition marks the first time a former president has been compelled to testify to Congress pursuant to a subpoena.

Democrats on the committee say Clinton’s deposition marks a precedent that should require President Donald Trump, who has also been photographed with Epstein, to testify before the committee.

Longevity doctor Peter Attia steps down from his CBS News contributor role after appearing in the Epstein files

  • Longevity influencer Peter Attia has stepped down from his role as a CBS News contributor.
  • Attia’s name appears in the Epstein files over 1,700 times.
  • Attia also stepped down from his role at David Protein and is no longer listed as an Eight Sleep advisor.

Peter Attia, a popular longevity doctor with ties to Jeffrey Epstein, has stepped aside from his new role as a CBS News contributor, a person familiar with his decision confirmed to Business Insider.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

The 52-year-old influencer, known for his podcasts and videos about living longer and his book “Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity,” was brought on by CBS News’ top editor, Bari Weiss, in late January, along with more than a dozen other new contributors.

Days later, the latest round of the Epstein files was released. Attia appears over 1,700 times in the files, which include crude emails he sent about women’s genitalia that he later called “embarrassing, tasteless, and indefensible.”

“The man I am today, roughly ten years later, would not write them and would not associate with Epstein at all,” Attia said of his emails with the disgraced financier and convicted sex criminal.

Attia has also stepped down from his role as chief science officer at the protein bar brand David Protein and is no longer listed as an advisor at Eight Sleep.

Other famous and powerful people, including former Prince Andrew, have also faced consequences after appearing in the Epstein files.

Trump says he’s declassifying files about aliens and UFOs. That’s going to make some longtime betters on Polymarket very rich.

President Donald Trump says he is directing federal agencies to declassify UFO files. For traders betting on aliens, that could mean a very earthly payday.

“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Thursday night.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump took aim at former President Barack Obama, accusing him of improperly discussing classified material when speaking about extraterrestrial life on a recent podcast.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Obama “gave classified information” and wasn’t “supposed to be doing that,” adding that he could get him “out of trouble” by declassifying the relevant files.

Obama said in a tongue-in-cheek exchange with podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen last week that aliens are “real” and that they’re not “being kept” at Area 51. He later clarified in an Instagram post that there was no evidence during his presidency that aliens “have made contact with us.”

Aliens have always had a niche following. In prediction markets, aliens are tradable assets.

On the decentralized prediction platform Polymarket, guessing about aliens has become a high-volume betting category. Traders have poured millions of dollars into whether the US will confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life.

One of the platform’s largest markets asks whether the US will confirm that aliens exist before 2027. The market has drawn more than $4 million in trading volume as of Thursday.

Betting activity has also centered on whether a Trump administration would declassify UFO files before 2027, with odds climbing above 80% in December.

Polymarket users also placed bets on other extraterrestrial theories, including whether mysterious drones spotted over New Jersey were aliens.

If the files are released and contain anything definitive, longtime alien bettors may finally cash in.

Notable speculation about aliens and UFOs

In November 2024, unidentified drones were seen flying at night over New Jersey and other East Coast states.

The mysterious sightings unsettled residents and drew questions from local officials, fueling a wave of speculation about what — or who — was in the sky. Alien theories quickly gained traction.

At that time, Trump said the government “knows what is happening” but wasn’t sharing it.

“For some reason, they don’t want to comment. I think they’d be better off saying what it is. Our military knows, and our president knows, and for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense,” he said at Mar-a-Lago.

“Something strange is going on,” he added.

A Facebook group titled “New Jersey Mystery Drones — let’s solve it” has grown to more than 81,000 members as of writing. Users in the group continue to float the possibility of extraterrestrial involvement, alongside speculation about commercial or military craft.

Read the memo: Talent agent Casey Wasserman tells staff he’s selling his company after Epstein files fallout

Casey Wasserman is selling his high-profile sports marketing and talent agency after his correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell surfaced in the Epstein files.

The entertainment executive informed the Wasserman Group’s 4,000 staffers about the sale in a memo on Friday.

“At this moment, I believe that I have become a distraction to those efforts,” he wrote. “That is why I have begun the process of selling the company, an effort that is already underway.”

In January, the Justice Department began to release more than 3 million pages of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.

The names of numerous prominent people, such as Bill Gates and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, have shown up in the documents. While appearing in the files does not mean a person is associated with Epstein’s crimes, some have nonetheless faced a public fallout by association.

In Wasserman’s case, the documents revealed that the entertainment mogul flew on Epstein’s jet with several people, including former US President Bill Clinton. He also exchanged emails with Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking girls for Epstein. Wasserman’s emails with Maxwell were dated 2003, long before police began to investigate Epstein and over a decade before police arrested Maxwell.

Wasserman issued an apology following the revelations, but a backlash from his roster of top talent had already begun. Singer Chappell Roan, Olympian Abby Wambach, and others said they intended to leave his agency over his association with Epstein.

“It was years before their criminal conduct came to light, and, in its entirety, consisted of one humanitarian trip to Africa and a handful of emails that I deeply regret sending,” Wasserman wrote in the memo to staff on Friday. “And I’m heartbroken that my brief contact with them 23 years ago has caused you, this company, and its clients so much hardship over the past days and weeks.”

Read the full memo Wasserman sent to his employees:

Team:
I wanted to write to you all directly to share a few important updates. Over the past couple of weeks, I have spoken to many of you directly — and I wish I could have spoken with every one of you because you all have put your hearts and souls into this incredible organization.
First and foremost, I want to apologize to you. I’m deeply sorry that my past personal mistakes have caused you so much discomfort. It’s not fair to you, and it’s not fair to the clients and partners we represent so vigorously and care so deeply about.
The pain experienced by the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell is unimaginable – and I’m glad, as I’m sure you all are, that those who helped them commit their crimes are rightly being held accountable.
Hopefully by now you know the facts about my limited interactions with those two individuals. It was years before their criminal conduct came to light, and, in its entirety, consisted of one humanitarian trip to Africa and a handful of emails that I deeply regret sending. And I’m heartbroken that my brief contact with them 23 years ago has caused you, this company, and its clients so much hardship over the past days and weeks.
Other than my children and my fiancée, there are two things that matter most to me in this world: this company that I founded 24 years ago, and the dream I’ve pursued for more than a decade of bringing the Olympic Games back to the city I love.
This organization, its leadership and the entire team mean the world to me. Our 4,000 employees are the absolute best in the business. I see you put it all on the line for your clients every day. Our clients expect — and deserve — world-class representation. And that’s exactly what they get because of all of you.
At this moment, I believe that I have become a distraction to those efforts. That is why I have begun the process of selling the company, an effort that is already underway. During this time, Mike Watts will assume day-to-day control of the business while I devote my full attention to delivering Los Angeles an Olympic Games in 2028 that is worthy of this outstanding city.
I so appreciate the passion and fight you bring to your jobs. It’s why you succeed.
I am beyond proud of what this company has accomplished to date and excited to watch its next chapter.
All my best,
Casey

Epstein files: A list of people facing consequences over the DOJ’s release

Casey Wasserman announced on February 13 that he is selling his talent agency after his name appeared in the Epstein files, sparking a growing fallout.

Soccer player Abby Wambach and singer Chapell Roan earlier said they were parting ways with Wasserman’s agency.

Wasserman flew on Epstein’s jet with a group of people that included former President Bill Clinton. The files also show Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell exchanging racy and flirtatious emails in 2003, well before police began investigating Epstein, and over a decade before Maxwell’s arrest on sex-trafficking charges in 2020.

“Casey – I will be coming back to NY torn late afternoon,” Maxwell wrote in one email. “I shall be wearing a tight leather flying suit.”

Wasserman said in a statement that he regretted his messages with Maxwell, which took place “long before her horrific crimes came to light” and that he never had any personal or business relationship with Epstein.

Wasserman announced his intentions to sell his agency in a memo to staffers, which the agency shared with Business Insider.

“I’m deeply sorry that my past personal mistakes have caused you so much discomfort. It’s not fair to you, and it’s not fair to the clients and partners we represent so vigorously and care so deeply about,” Wasserman wrote. “The pain experienced by the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell is unimaginable – and I’m glad, as I’m sure you all are, that those who helped them commit their crimes are rightly being held accountable.”

Wasserman wrote that he had “become a distraction.”

“That is why I have begun the process of selling the company, an effort that is already underway. During this time, Mike Watts will assume day-to-day control of the business while I devote my full attention to delivering Los Angeles an Olympic Games in 2028 that is worthy of this outstanding city,” he wrote.

Brad-Karp-resigns-from-the-Union-College-board-after-Epstein.jpeg

Brad Karp resigns from the Union College board after Epstein files fallout

  • Brad Karp has resigned from Union College’s board of trustees.
  • This news comes after Karp’s resignation as chairman of Big Law firm Paul Weiss earlier this month.
  • Karp is one of the elite names that appear in the Epstein files.

Top US lawyer Brad Karp has resigned from Union College’s board of trustees as he faces scrutiny from his ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Karp has been removed from the list of trustees on his alma mater’s website, from which he graduated in 1981.

Union College’s board chair Julie Greifer Swidler could not be reached for immediate comment. In a statement to local media, Greifer Swidler said Karp had resigned from the board.

“The Board of Trustees and College leadership look forward to continuing our efforts to prepare our outstanding students to lead with wisdom, empathy and courage, while ensuring that Union thrives for decades to come,” she said.

Karp’s departure from the board follows his resignation as chairman of the Big Law firm Paul Weiss last week.

Karp is among the names to appear in 3 million documents released by the Justice Department from its investigation into Epstein.

“Recent reporting has created a distraction and has placed a focus on me that is not in the best interests of the firm,” Karp said in a statement in Paul Weiss’ news release announcing the news.

Chappell-Roan-leaves-Casey-Wassermans-talent-agency-after-he-appeared.jpeg

Chappell Roan leaves Casey Wasserman’s talent agency after he appeared in the Epstein files

Chappell Roan is leaving talent agency Wasserman Music. Last month, the agency’s CEO and founder, Casey Wasserman, appeared in a trove of Department of Justice documents related to child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well,” Roan wrote. “No artist, agent, or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.”

The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer said she respected and appreciated staff at the agency but that the decision reflected her “belief that meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust.”

Roan did not explicitly mention Epstein in her post, but it comes after The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter reported about turmoil inside the agency over the CEO’s appearance in the files.

Representatives for Wasserman Music did not respond to a request for comment. The CEO has previously said he regrets the association.

Wasserman appeared in the most recent tranche of Epstein-related documents released by the DOJ. Appearing in the files does not necessarily suggest that a person has engaged in wrongdoing.

The documents included flirtatious email exchanges between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell from 2003.

Maxwell was convicted in December 2021 of five counts related to a sex trafficking scheme involving minors with Epstein. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022.

Wasserman, who is also the chairman of LA28, the organizing committee for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, apologized in a statement on January 31.

“I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell, which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” he said. “I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”

Roan, whose name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, has been repped by the talent agency Wasserman since 2023. She is the latest star to leave the agency amidst the Epstein fallout. The artists Beach Bunny, Wednesday, and Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast walked away from the agency in the past week. In 2024, Billie Eilish left the agency for other reasons.

The-DOJ-says-it-took-down-9000-of-the-Epstein.jpeg

The DOJ says it took down 9,000 of the Epstein files

The Justice Department has removed thousands of files linked to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein from its website, it said in a court filing.

In a Thursday letter to judges in the Southern District of New York, DOJ officials said they had removed approximately 9,500 documents, in part because they originally included information that identified Epstein’s victims.

The letter was signed by US Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, and US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton. It was filed in the court docket for the criminal cases against Epstein and his co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell. Victims’ lawyers had asked judges to ensure the Justice Department would protect their privacy.

The Justice Department said in the letter that the takedowns were “temporary” while the documents were reviewed for additional redactions.

It added that in recent days, following the documents’ release, victims of Epstein and their counsels had identified new names and identifiers for redaction “that were not identified prior to publication.”

“Additionally, many of the documents flagged by victims and victim counsel for further review were not necessarily identifying of a particular victim based on the face of the document, itself, and were not obviously sensitive in nature,” the letter said.

The letter said these documents would be further redacted and then reposted. It requested the judges to “not take any further protective measures” while the department is reviewing the documents.

The DOJ’s letter comes days after the Justice Department, on January 31, released 3 million Epstein-related files to the public. The latest tranche of files included big names from the tech and business spheres, such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Reid Hoffman.

In the court filing, the Justice Department said the hiccups could be attributed to the sheer volume of records “from multiple offices and investigations spanning over twenty years” it needed to prepare for public release following the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, as well as the “technical capabilities of the document management systems” and “human error.”

A Justice Department spokesperson told Business Insider that it “takes victim protection very seriously.”

“The Department had 500 reviewers looking at millions of pages for this very reason, to meet the requirements of the act while protecting victims,” the spokesperson said. “When a victim’s name is alleged to be unredacted, our team is working around the clock to fix the issue and republish appropriately redacted pages as soon as possible.”

A recurring character in the Epstein files: Snow White

Snow White has made another appearance in the Epstein files.

A June 2010 email contained in the latest tranche of documents released by the Justice Department shows the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein asking an unidentified person to get a costume of the beloved Disney character.

“i would love to take photos of you in a snow white costume,” Epstein wrote. “you can get it from the costume store.”

“Will get it!” the person responded.

The email — which was first reported by The Financial Times — isn’t the only time that the guest of the Seven Dwarfs has been mentioned in the files.

A few weeks later, ex-Barclays CEO Jes Staley sent an email to Epstein, whom he had known for years, that said: “That was fun. Say hi to Snow White.”

Epstein responded: “[W]hat character would you like next?” When Staley said “Beauty and the Beast,” Epstein replied: “Well one side is available.”

Also in July 2010, an unknown person emailed Epstein with the cryptic comment: “the snow white was f..ed twice as soon as she put her costume))”.

It’s not known if there is any connection between the various references to Snow White.

The Staley email exchange was initially released after the government of the Virgin Islands sued JPMorgan Chase, alleging it facilitated Epstein’s sex-trafficking activities in the Caribbean, where he owned two islands.

The VI lawyers claimed in court papers that the Disney princess references were code for young women. Staley, who was a private banker at JPMorgan before he went to Barclays, testified in a different case that he did not remember the emails.

Epstein — who had dealings with the rich, famous, and powerful even after he pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008 — killed himself in a Manhattan prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sweeping sex-trafficking charges.

Scrutiny of Staley’s ties to Epstein led to his departure from Barclays in 2021. Two years later, Britain’s Financial Conduct Authority banned him from management positions in financial services.

Staley appealed, which resulted in him taking the stand, where he testified that his relationship with Epstein was largely professional. He also testified that he had sex with one of Epstein’s staff members at the apartment of Epstein’s brother. The ban was upheld.

Lawyers for Staley didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
