Kevin O’Leary is confident his “Marty Supreme” costar Timothée Chalamet is walking away with the best actor Oscar.

The “Shark Tank” star is so confident, in fact, he put money on it.

O’Leary, who plays tycoon Milton Rockwell in “Marty Supreme,” told Variety on the Oscars red carpet that he bet $1,000 on the betting app Kalshi that Chalamet will win the prize.

“I know the voting stopped long before that controversy happened,” O’Leary told the magazine, referring to a comment Chalamet made during a conversation with Matthew McConaughey earlier this month where he talked down the ballet and opera.

“I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore,'” Chalamet said.

Chalamet has been the frontrunner for the best actor Oscar until recently, when “Sinners” star Michael B. Jordon won the best actor prize at SAG’s Actor Awards. And O’Leary is right — Oscar voting did indeed close before Chalamet’s mini-controversy. So whether Mr. Wonderful wins or loses $1,000, it won’t be related to a love or hatred for opera and ballet.

Elon Musk said he’ll congratulate Blue Origin if they land on the moon before SpaceX — he’s focused on something else

Elon Musk says he’s happy to lose one lunar milestone if it helps him win the bigger prize.

The SpaceX chief said in a post on X on Monday that he would congratulate Blue Origin if it lands on the moon before SpaceX, as his company focuses on a more ambitious goal: building a “self-growing city” on the moon.

“What really matters for the future is being able to land millions of tons of equipment and people to build a self-growing city on the moon,” Musk wrote. “In this respect, perhaps we are be more the tortoise than the hare for now,” he added.

Musk’s comments about SpaceX being more “tortoise than the hare” came in response to an X post by Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, who shared a black-and-white image of a tortoise. The post on Monday appeared to be a nod to the tortoise-and-hare fable, framing Blue Origin as the slow-and-steady contender and SpaceX as the faster but more distracted rival.

Musk and Bezos have been rivals for years, frequently clashing over their space ambitions at SpaceX and Blue Origin, as well as over their fortunes.

After long touting Mars as SpaceX’s main destination, Musk said on Sunday that the company has shifted its focus to the moon.

“For those unaware, SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years,” he wrote in a post on X.

“That said, SpaceX will also strive to build a Mars city and begin doing so in about 5 to 7 years, but the overriding priority is securing the future of civilization and the moon is faster,” he added.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that SpaceX told investors it is targeting March 2027 for an uncrewed landing on the moon.

In a separate post on X, Musk said on Sunday that SpaceX would “continue to launch directly from Earth to Mars while possible, rather than moon to Mars.”

“Fuel is relatively scarce on the moon,” Musk added.

Musk previously said SpaceX would send an uncrewed mission to Mars by the end of 2026.

“No, we’re going straight to Mars. The moon is a distraction,” he said in January last year in response to a post on X.

Musk is known for rolling out bold timelines for projects such as electric vehicles — only to revise or abandon them later.

Bezos has long emphasised the moon as humanity’s next destination, and has taken aim at Musk’s push to colonize Mars.

“Go live on the top of Mount Everest for a year first and see if you like it, because it’s a garden paradise compared to Mars,” Bezos said in 2019.

During a presentation for project Blue Moon, Bezos included a slide about Mars with the title “FAR, FAR AWAY,” referencing SpaceX’s Mars ambition.

Blue Origin said previously it aimed to reach the moon by 2023 — a target it did not meet.

Inside the ‘hell on earth’ Brooklyn jail reportedly housing Nicolás Maduro

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores are reportedly awaiting their first court appearance at a Brooklyn jail famous for its poor conditions.

Numerous publications, including The Wall Street Journal, have reported that the pair were escorted to the Metropolitan Detention Center late Saturday after arriving by plane in New York.

MDC, which has yet to confirm the transfer to Business Insider, has been home to numerous high-profile defendants facing trial in New York City, including music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of fallen bitcoin exchange FTX, and Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted of aiding the sex trafficking operation of the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Luigi Mangioni has been housed at MDC while awaiting trial for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He has pleaded not guilty.

The jail has been widely criticized over the years for its poor conditions, having been described as “inhumane” and “hell on earth.”

Last year, the Legal Aid Society issued a press release lamenting the jail’s “documented history of violence, medical neglect, and human and civil rights violations.” It cited reports of no heat during the winter and “maggot-infested food.”

In 2024, a federal judge in Brooklyn made headlines when he carved out a special exemption during sentencing to help a defendant avoid the MDC. The judge ruled that if the 74-year-old, convicted of tax fraud, were assigned to the MDC, he could serve his time under house arrest, The New York Times reported.

In March, Brooklyn federal prosecutors announced charges against 25 defendants in 12 separate cases tied to violence and contraband smuggling at the jail, which is located in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.

“Over the years, MDC has become synonymous with egregious neglect and abuse with the people incarcerated,” the Legal Aid Society said in a June press release opposing ICE detentions at the jail.

President Donald Trump shocked the world on Saturday when he announced that the US had captured the Venezuelan president and his wife after a “large-scale strike” on Venezuela.

Trump has said the US is “going to run the country” until it can facilitate a safe transition of power, and that US oil companies will now be free to “spend billions” on development in the South American nation.

Maduro has been in the US Department of Justice’s crosshairs for years, and in 2020, Manhattan federal prosecutors indicted him as a leader of the Cartel de Las Soles, its name for the alleged drug-trafficking organization run by Venezuela’s military and political elite.

An expanded indictment unsealed on Saturday added as defendants Maduro’s wife and son, Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra, identified in the indictment as “The Prince.” It accused them of participating in a wide-ranging effort to traffic drugs to the US to enrich themselves.
