Chelsea Handler says her dating life changed after 40: ‘I’m too hot to be dating 65-year-olds’

Chelsea Handler, 51, isn’t sticking to traditional dating expectations, especially when it comes to age.

On Thursday’s episode of the “IRL podcast,” the comedian spoke about dating and the reason she doesn’t want to build her life around a partner.

Handler told host Angie Martinez that she’s seeing a man 14 years her junior, whom she met at a casino in Las Vegas. When asked about their age gap, Handler said she doesn’t “really feel anything” about it, but added that she initially wasn’t looking to date someone younger.

“When I was young, 20s, 30s, I always dated older guys. 20s, like 20 years older than me. I always dated 40-year-olds when I was 20, 50-year-olds when I was 30,” Handler said.

But when she turned 40, she began rethinking that pattern, and decided she didn’t want to date 60-year-olds.

“Like, I’ve got to flip it and reverse it, you know? So, now I’m heading in the opposite direction because I’m too hot to be dating a 65-year-old. Let’s be honest,” Handler said. “I mean, I don’t work this hard on myself and take such good care of myself so that I can’t have fun and, you know, have a good time.”

She added that once she got to know the man she’s been seeing better, that “age thing went out the window.”

Still, Handler said she values her independence.

“I like traveling a lot. I like hooking up with guys. I don’t like to get too serious. I don’t want someone in my space all the time,” she said.

She added that her “whole vibe” is about freedom. Even though she sees marriage as “outdated,” Handler said she’d do it for the irony.

“But, you know, since I’ve bemoaned marriage my whole entire public life, I would be really hypocritical for me to get married, which means I’ll probably do it,” Handler said.

Handler has long been candid about her approach to dating.

During an appearance on “Call Her Daddy” in February 2025, Handler said she prefers to live life on her own terms.

“I’m not interested in long-term commitments, to work, to people, to anything. I am a free spirit and I want to remain and soar like an eagle,” she told host Alex Cooper.

She isn’t the only Hollywood star who has embraced relationships with younger partners.

In 2024, Cher said she prefers to date younger men because older ones are often intimidated by her. The singer has a 40-year age gap with her boyfriend, Alexander Edwards.

In 2025, Tracee Ellis Ross said she dates younger men because men her age are often “steeped in toxic masculinity.

“And anything that starts to smell of that for me — I did enough of it where I was controlled and felt like I was a possession or a prize — I just have no interest in it. And I will not do it again,” Ross said.

I found the next hot toy trend: It’s the highland cow.

I’m calling it: If you haven’t already, you’re going to start seeing highland cows in toy aisles around the country.

After visiting one of the industry’s largest fairs earlier this week, I think I’m qualified to say: The shaggy cow is taking over as the hot new animal for plush toys.

If you’ve been paying attention to toys — or if you have kids — you probably already know capybaras are big, but they’ve been the hot thing for more than a year now. Same with axolotls, the eerily cute pink salamanders. Those trends are peaking, though.

Stuffed animals seem to go in trend cycles. In the mid-2010s, llamas and owls were all over baby and kids’ clothes and toys. Before that, hedgehogs and foxes.

Not everyone I talked to at the Toy Fair, the toy industry convention held in New York over Presidents Day weekend, agreed with my assessment. I got a few other surprising predictions:

pigeons.

frogs.

squirrels.

woolly mammoths.

But enough people I asked said the same thing — that the trending animal is the highland cow, with its caramel fur and tawny mop of hair — that I feel I can say there’s a modest consensus.

Like I said, not everyone agreed on the cow. But there was agreement, among everyone I talked to, about three things casting a long shadow over the toy business: tariffs, TikTok, and Labubus.

I chatted with several small to midsize toy companies who said that the tariffs that began when President Donald Trump declared “Liberation Day” have hurt their businesses. One plush toy maker said they’re paying $10,000 extra per container in tariff charges for their high-end plush animals made in the Philippines. They haven’t raised prices yet, and the new fees just eat into their profit. Another plush maker said that they raised prices once after tariffs, but are trying to avoid another hike.

Toy makers’ ears must’ve been burning when Trump made comments about how perhaps kids could learn to live with just a few dolls instead of many. But Trump was right about something — kids do often have more toys now than they did 30 years ago because toys are, in fact, cheaper than ever.

The rate of inflation for toys is well below the national average for all things, meaning a Barbie or Hot Wheel costs relatively less today than it did back in 1995. (If you’re a parent looking at a mess of toys spilling out of boxes and shelves, you’re not alone.) Part of the reason toys have gotten cheaper is overseas manufacturing, which the tariffs are now hitting.

The big toy brands like Barbie, Lego, and Pokémon all had new items to debut at the fair. Among the smaller toy brands, a few trends emerged — blind boxes were huge, and many brands and distributors had cute figurines packaged in blind boxes or adopted the aesthetic of twee characters sold alongside Labubus at the Hong Kong-based retailer Pop Mart.

Still, no one seemed to think there was a clear heir apparent to Labubus, which were a singular meteoric event in the toy world (yes, there have been viral toys before, like Beanie Babies or Tickle-Me-Elmos, but the rapid internet and celebrity-fueled Labubu phenomenon feels unique).

“Labubu is such a great example of something from nothing, but really built on the foundation of everything. Blind boxes have been massive. Plush has been massive. It was the amalgamation of a ton of the listening, and it then getting discovered,” said Eric Morse, VP of new business initiatives at Spirit Halloween said during a panel talk about Gen Alpha trends.

Morse went on to explain they used a similar strategy for rushing out “K-Pop Demon Hunters” costumes this October after the surprise hit debuted on Netflix over the summer. (Of course, even though they pushed through a licensed costume at a far faster speed than normal, they still sold out well before Halloween, much to the ire of 8-year-olds everywhere.) “How we view the business is listen first, execute second,” Morse said.

When toy and candy trends happen rapidly on TikTok, it can be hard to predict surges in demand. And with on-again, off-again tariffs, it’s even harder to plan, lots of industry insiders told me. That’s something I kept hearing from all the vendors I talked with: uncertainty.

But one thing I feel confident about is highland cows. You heard it here first, folks.

Alexander-brothers-testimony-describes-a-woman-being-sexually-assaulted-in.jpeg

Alexander brothers testimony describes a woman being sexually assaulted in a Hamptons hot tub as partygoers watched

Two Alexander brothers had sex with a protesting woman in the backyard of a Hamptons rental as other partygoers joined in or watched, according to testimony in the third week of the siblings’ Manhattan sex trafficking trial.

“She was over and over and over asking them to stop,” a witness told the jury of an unnamed woman she described as intoxicated and “screaming” for help in a hot tub.

It was Saturday night on Memorial Day weekend in 2009. Tal Alexander and “one of the twins” — the witness couldn’t say if it was Alon or Oren Alexander — were among those sexually assaulting the woman, according to the testimony.

“It seemed nobody was taking action,” said the witness, Avishan Bodjnoud, an information management executive at the United Nations.

Bodjnoud said she asked the people around her to do something, but no one would. In the midst of a party, “there were no allies there to help,” Bodjnoud said.

She felt too fearful and too alone in her outrage to contact the police, Bodjnoud told the jury.

Instead, she fled the party in a taxi, but not before scrawling “Rapists” and “You need to apologize” in eyeliner on the front door and wall of the Southampton rental, Bodjnoud testified.

Photographs of the graffiti, recovered from Tal Alexander’s hard drive, were shown in court. “I hoped that someday this could be used as evidence,” Bodjnoud said, seeing the photographs and tearing up on the witness stand.

The disturbing testimony capped the third week of the trial of former luxury real estate brokers Tal and Oren Alexander and their brother, Alon.

So far — roughly halfway through the federal trial — nine accusers have taken the stand. In sometimes tearful testimony, they have described being sexually assaulted behind closed doors by one or more of the brothers, including on a cruise ship, at two Hamptons rentals, and at an Aspen ski resort.

The hot tub incident stands out as the only alleged assault to take place in public view, with a pool party in full swing. It is not clear whether prosecutors will call the woman herself to the stand or whether she was ever identified.

Lawyers for the brothers say that any sex was consensual and not trafficking. In their cross-examinations of witnesses, the lawyers have repeatedly pointed out that none of the women called the police or took a drug test that could substantiate their claims of being drugged.

During cross-examination, a defense lawyer for Tal Alexander challenged Bodjnoud’s testimony that she remained silent out of fear for the brothers’ power and influence.

“Were you aware that in 2009, Tal Alexander was a 21-year-old copy machine salesman?” asked the lawyer, Milton Williams.

A second witness to the alleged hot tub assault testified on Thursday and Friday under the pseudonym “Isa Brooks.”

Brooks told jurors she saw “a girl, I believe, in a green bikini with a bunch of guys on top of her.”

She said she heard another woman — who, like her, was indoors looking out into the yard — cry out, “I work for the UN and I know what you’re doing!”

Oren Alexander, who was outside, slammed the door in that woman’s face, Brooks testified.

Brooks was called to testify to her own alleged assault, which she said took place earlier in the day on that same Saturday. She was days away from her 17th birthday.

She described struggling and falling in and out of consciousness as Tal Alexander and Alon Alexander, whom she described as the “quieter twin,” joined with two other men in violently assaulting her on a bed.

The four men were saying “degrading words” during the attack, Brooks told the jury.

“I was wondering why they hated me,” she recalled thinking.

On cross-examination, Brooks was questioned by the defense about photographs showing her celebrating her 17th birthday with school pals days after the incident, and was asked why, days after that, she and a girlfriend stayed overnight at another Hamptons home where Tal Alexander was also present.

“I was scared to rock the boat,” she responded of her reluctance to speak out or call the authorities. “I was scared that I would get in trouble.”

The brothers face up to life in prison if convicted of a top count of sex trafficking conspiracy.

Janet Jackson’s reign on the Hot 100 began with 1986’s “When I Think of You,” which topped the chart when she was 20 years old.

Next came 1989’s “Miss You Much,” 1990’s “Escapade,” “Black Cat,” and “Love Will Never Do (Without You),” 1993’s “That’s the Way Love Goes” and “Again,” 1997’s “Together Again,” 2000’s “Doesn’t Really Matter,” and 2001’s “All for You.”

Jackson is the rare artist to claim the No. 1 spot in three different decades, like Stevie Wonder.

7. Whitney Houston — 11
Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston had no shortage of iconic songs, but she earned her first No. 1 with “Saving All My Love for You” in 1985. That same year, she also put “How Will I Know” in the top spot.

Over the next decade, Houston collected nine more chart-toppers: “The Greatest Love of All” in 1986; “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” and “So Emotional” in 1987; “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” in 1988; “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and “All the Man That I Need” in 1990; “I Will Always Love You” in 1992; and “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” in 1995.

6 (tie). Madonna — 12

Madonna has been topping the charts for decades, and it all began with “Like a Virgin” in 1984.

She followed up with “Crazy for You” in 1985 before she scored three No. 1 hits in 1986 alone: “Live to Tell,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” and “Open Your Heart.”

The so-called “Queen of Pop” added to her collection with “Who’s That Girl” in 1987, “Like a Prayer” in 1989, “Vogue” and “Justify My Love” in 1990, “This Used to Be My Playground” in 1992, “Take a Bow” in 1994, and “Music” in 2000.

6 (tie). The Supremes — 12
the supremes

The Supremes are known as one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, earning 12 No. 1 hits in half as many years.

In the mid-’60s, the trio released a string of five singles that all went to No. 1 on the chart: “Where Did Our Love Go,” “Baby Love,” and “Come See About Me” in 1964, then “Stop! In the Name of Love” and “Back in My Arms Again” in 1965.

They continued to dominate the decade with a flood of hits: “I Hear a Symphony,” also in 1965; “You Can’t Hurry Love” and “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” in 1966; “Love Is Here and Now You’re Gone” and “The Happening” in 1967; “Love Child” in 1968; and “Someday We’ll Be Together” in 1969.

5 (tie). Michael Jackson — 13

JUNE 25: Michael Jackson performs in concert circa 1986.

Michael Jackson began appearing on the charts as a child with The Jackson 5, but after he struck out on his own, the so-called “King of Pop” racked up more hits than any solo artist at the time.

Perhaps most impressively, five out of his 13 No. 1 songs came from the same album (“Bad”), setting a record that remains unbroken. (It was tied in 2011 by Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.”)

Jackson’s first chart-topper was “Ben” in 1972 when he was 14 years old. “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and “Rock With You” both took the top spot in 1979, followed by “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and “Say Say Say” in 1983; “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” and “The Way You Make Me Feel” in 1987; “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana” in 1988; and “Black or White” in 1993.

He capped his collection with “You Are Not Alone” in 1995, which also became the first song in history to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

5 (tie). Drake — 13
drake

Drake is one of the most dominant artists of the streaming era, racking up 13 chart-topping singles to date — the vast majority at breakneck speed in a seven-year period.

The rapper notched his first No. 1 hit thanks to Rihanna when their collaboration, “What’s My Name,” reigned atop the chart in 2010.

In 2016, Drake topped the chart again as a featured artist on Rihanna’s song “Work.” Later that year, “One Dance” became his first solo hit to ascend to first place.

He notched three No. 1 hits in 2018 with “God’s Plan,” “Nice for What,” and “In My Feelings,” followed by “Toosie Slide” in 2020; “What’s Next” and “Way 2 Sexy” in 2021; “Wait for U” and “Jimmy Cooks” in 2022; and “Slime You Out” and “First Person Shooter” in 2023.

Nine of those songs arrived in the chart’s top spot, making Drake the artist with the most No. 1 song debuts in history.

5 (tie). Taylor Swift — 13

Taylor Swift’s first No. 1 hit was “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” in 2012. It was released as the lead single from Swift’s fourth album, “Red.”

Swift’s fifth album, “1989,” spawned three No. 1 singles: “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space” in 2014, followed by the “Bad Blood” remix featuring Kendrick Lamar in 2015.

“Look What You Made Me Do” became her fifth chart leader in 2017, followed by “Cardigan” and “Willow” in 2020.

In 2021, Swift launched her series of rerecorded albums, sending an extended version of an old deep cut, “All Too Well,” to the top of the chart. At 10 minutes and 13 seconds, it’s the longest No. 1 hit in Billboard history.

Swift’s 2022 single “Anti-Hero” became her longest-running No. 1 hit, reigning atop the chart for eight weeks.

In 2023, Swift notched her milestone 10th leader with “Cruel Summer,” fueled by the success of the Eras Tour. Shortly after, “Is It Over Now?” and “Fortnight” joined the ranks.

“The Fate of Ophelia,” the lead single from “The Life of a Showgirl,” became Swift’s 13th chart-topper after setting a new single-week streaming record on Spotify. Notably, Swift is credited as the lead cowriter on all of her No. 1 songs.

4. Rihanna — 14
rihanna super bowl 2023

In the span of just 14 years, Rihanna earned 14 No. 1 songs, starting with “SOS” in 2006 when she was still a teenager.

Next came “Umbrella” in 2007; “Take a Bow,” “Live Your Life,” and “Disturbia” in 2008; “Rude Boy,” “Love the Way You Lie,” “Only Girl (In the World),” and “What’s My Name” in 2010; “S&M” and “We Found Love” in 2011; “Diamonds” in 2012; “The Monster” in 2013; and finally “Work” in 2016, the lead single from her most recent album, “Anti.”

3. Elvis Presley — 18

Technically, some of Elvis Presley’s career predated the Hot 100, which was launched in 1958. But he topped its predecessor, the pop chart, and the Hot 100 a combined total of 18 times.

In 1956, his No. 1 singles were: “Heartbreak Hotel,” “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Hound Dog,” and “Love Me Tender.”

The next year, 1957, he released the chart-toppers “Too Much,” “All Shook Up,” “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear,” and “Jailhouse Rock.”

In 1958, there was “Don’t” and “Hard Headed Woman,” while in 1959, there was “A Big Hunk o’ Love.”

The ’60s were slower for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He had the No. 1s “Stuck on You,” “Now or Never,’ and “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” in 1960; “Surrender” in 1961; “Good Luck Charm” in 1962; and his final No. 1, “Suspicious Minds,” in 1969.

2. Mariah Carey — 19
mariah carey
Mariah Carey performs at Wembley Arena in 1996.

In terms of No. 1 songs, Mariah Carey is the second-best-selling artist of all time, the best-selling solo artist of all time, and the best-selling female artist of all time.

Her first No. 1 hit was also her debut single, 1990’s “Vision of Love.” Her next four singles would also top the chart: “Love Takes Time” in 1990, followed by “Someday,” “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” and “Emotions” in 1991.

Then came a veritable feast of hit songs: “I’ll Be There” in 1992; “Dreamlover” and “Hero” in 1993; “Fantasy” and “One Sweet Day” in 1995; “Always Be My Baby” in 1996; “Honey” in 1997; “My All” in 1998; “Heartbreaker” in 1999; “Thank God I Found You” in 2000; “We Belong Together” and “Don’t Forget About Us” in 2005; and “Touch My Body” in 2008.

In 2020, she became the first and only artist in history to top the Billboard Hot 100 in four different decades, thanks to the longevity of her 1994 holiday single “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

1. The Beatles — 20
The Beatles
The Beatles perform in November 1963.

The Beatles still reign supreme with the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and the most No. 1 songs on the Hot 100, earning 20 in just eight years.

In chronological order, the British band topped the chart with “Love Me Do” in 1962; “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” in 1963; “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” and “I Feel Fine” in 1964; “Eight Days a Week,” “Ticket to Ride,” “Help!,” “Yesterday,” and “We Can Work It Out” in 1965; “Paperback Writer” in 1966; “Penny Lane” “All You Need Is Love,” and “Hello, Goodbye” in 1967; “Hey Jude” in 1968; “Get Back” and “Something” in 1969; and “Let It Be” and “The Long and Winding Road” in 1970.

The band’s most recent song, “Now and Then,” peaked at No. 7 on the chart and won best rock performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Treasury-Secretary-Scott-Bessent-says-Trumps-Greenland-push-is-about.jpeg

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says Trump’s Greenland push is about avoiding a ‘hot war’

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says President Donald Trump is serious about annexing Greenland.

Trump amped up the rhetoric on Saturday, announcing on Truth Social that the United States would impose new tariffs on Denmark, which controls Greenland, and other European countries unless they hand Greenland over.

Speaking to Kristen Welker on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Bessent said Trump’s push to take over Greenland was not an empty land grab but a strategy to prevent future conflict.

“The national emergency is avoiding a national emergency,” Bessent said. “It is a strategic decision by the president. This is a geopolitical decision, and he’s able to use the economic might of the US to avoid a hot war, so why wouldn’t we do that?”

Greenland is strategically located in the Arctic, acting as a buffer between North America and Russia. It is also home to minerals important to the manufacturing of future technologies.

Trump has recently said that at least part of his reasoning for wanting to annex Greenland is so it can house his Golden Dome missile defense project.

“The president is trying to avoid a conflict,” Bessent said.

That project remains in early planning stages, however, and Denmark has never said it wouldn’t allow Golden Dome infrastructure on its territory. The United States already has a military base in Greenland.

The spectre that the United States — recently emboldened by its surprise raid on Venezuela that netted its leader, Nicolás Maduro, allowing it to move to open the country’s oil industry — could force Europe’s hand by targeting its economy or even take Greenland by force, has rankled US allies across the Atlantic.

European Union leaders held an emergency meeting on Sunday, during which they called Trump’s tariff threat economic blackmail.

“Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral,” the eight EU nations targeted by Trump said in a joint statement released on Sunday.
