I-tried-the-biggest-burgers-at-5-fast-food-chains-and.jpeg

I tried the biggest burgers at 5 fast-food chains and ranked them from worst to best

When it comes to fast food’s biggest burgers, the prices are sometimes stacked just as high as the patties.

As some chains see sales decline, brands are thinking beyond limited-time promotions and more about how they can deliver the best value for customers — and sometimes, that means supersizing their menus.

McDonald’s recently launched its new Big Arch burger, its biggest burger ever, with two quarter-pound patties and a new sauce and bun. It’s the chain’s attempt to create a more “premium” burger without a significant price increase compared to the other burgers on the McDonald’s menu.

To determine which chain offered the best value on its larger-ticket items, I compared six of the largest burgers sold at fast-food chains.

I tested burgers from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, In-N-Out, and Shake Shack to see how they stacked up in terms of taste and overall value.

Here’s how the biggest burgers at five fast-food chains ranked, from worst to best.

Shake Shack’s double cheeseburger, my least favorite, was particularly large.

Shake Shack’s double cheeseburger was the most expensive one I tried.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It cost me $13.89, not including tax, making it the most expensive burger I tried.

I chose pickles, onions, and Shack sauce as my toppings.

The burger patties were perfectly crispy on the outside and covered in gooey melted cheese.

The double cheeseburger was huge.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The pickles were large and crunchy, and the amount of other toppings was generous. The chain’s signature Shack sauce also added a lot of flavor, and the cheese was perfectly melted.

However, the burger was almost too heavy to pick up.

The 4×4 is the largest burger available at In-N-Out. I ranked it fifth.

in n out 4x4

In-N-Out’s 4×4 is also known as the “Quad Quad.”

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger, which is on In-N-Out’s “not-so-secret” menu, is also referred to as the “Quad Quad” or simply “Quad,” and comes with four beef patties, four cheese slices, lettuce, tomato, spread, and the option to add onions.

It cost $10.99, excluding tax and fees.

The giant burger was difficult to hold in one hand, let alone bite into.

in n out 4x4

The burger was delicious.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger was far too large for me to eat in one sitting, though the flavor made me want to.

The burger was delicious in every way, from the juicy beef patties to the layers of cheese and fresh lettuce and tomato.

in n out 4x4

In-N-Out’s 4×4 was heavy.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

However, I thought the additional burger patties ended up detracting from the burger’s overall ranking instead of enhancing it. The burger was overwhelmingly heavy, with the tomato and lettuce failing to offset the excessive amount of meat and cheese.

The buns couldn’t contain the juicy beef patties, and they started disintegrating as I ate the burger. Truthfully, I wouldn’t order this again. Although it was tasty, the amount of meat was just too much for me.

I also tried the McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with cheese.

McDonald’s Double Quarter-Pounder with cheese.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Looking at the burger in the box, I immediately noticed that the meat was clearly the star of the show. The other toppings were barely visible beneath the patties and bun.

The burger cost me $10.49, excluding tax.

The Double Quarter-Pounder with cheese comes with a whopping half-pound of meat, pickles, onions, ketchup, and mustard.

mcdonalds double quarter pounder burger

The bun let this burger down.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I found this burger to be pretty flavorful, especially thanks to the condiments and the large, crunchy pickles.

However, I wasn’t crazy about the bun — while I normally love a sesame-seed bun, I found this one to be pretty bland, airy, and artificial-tasting.

I would order this burger again.

mcdonalds double quarter pounder burger

McDonald’s Double Quarter-Pounder with cheese felt more manageable than some of the other burgers.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Despite having a lot of meat, the burger didn’t feel too overwhelming to eat.

I thought it was a filling yet completely manageable sandwich, especially compared to the gigantic burgers from Shake Shack and In-N-Out.

The third-best burger I tried was Wendy’s Dave’s Triple.

wendys daves triple

Wendy’s Dave’s Triple has three patties.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The Dave’s Triple burger cost $11.49, excluding tax.

Wendy’s Dave’s Triple burger comes with nearly a pound of beef, American cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, mayo, and onion.

wendys daves triple

Wendy’s Dave’s Triple had generous toppings.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The sandwich was difficult to pick up, but the ingredients seemed well-balanced.

There was a large serving of tomatoes, pickles, and cheese, so it didn’t look like the beef patties would be overpowered.

This burger was so flavorful. The cheese was perfectly melted, and the patties were super juicy.

wendys daves triple

This was a great-tasting burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

While I couldn’t finish the entire thing, I definitely thought the flavors were there, and it was a good value for the price.

If I were to change one thing, I would remove the mayonnaise. It ended up mixing with the tomato juice in an unappetizing way, creating a tomato-mayo sauce that I thought diluted the other flavors.

My second-favorite burger was the new Big Arch burger from McDonald’s.

mcdonalds big arch

The Big Arch from McDonald’s came with a poppy-seed bun.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The Big Arch comes topped with two quarter-pound patties, three slices of white cheddar, crispy and raw onions, lettuce, pickles, and a new, tangy Big Arch sauce.

At my local McDonald’s in Brooklyn, New York, the Big Arch costs $11.59, excluding tax and fees.

The burger was heavy to lift, with toppings spilling out from under the bun.

mcdonalds big arch

The burger was filling and savory.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It was super filling, and the white cheddar gave it a rich, steakhouse-style feel.

That said, with the fried onions, cheese, and sauce, it leaned heavily savory — I found myself wishing for something fresher, like more lettuce or tomato, to balance it out.

This burger felt intentional — they didn’t add a second patty simply for the sake of it.

mcdonalds big arch

The burger was packed with savory flavor.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It didn’t feel like McDonald’s threw on another patty and called it a day.

The proportions actually worked, and every layer of the burger — from the tangy white cheddar cheese to the new sauce and the crunchy pickles — felt like it was added to create a more “premium” burger experience.

The best burger I tried was the Triple Whopper with cheese from Burger King.

burger king triple whopper

My favorite burger was Burger King’s Triple Whopper with cheese.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Similar to the Dave’s Triple, the Triple Whopper also comes with three quarter-pound beef patties, although the ones at Burger King are flame-grilled.

The burger cost me $10.99, excluding tax.

Unlike the other burgers, the Triple Whopper only comes with one slice of cheese.

burger king triple whopper

The burger toppings tasted fresh.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

However, I felt that this allowed the other flavors to really come through, leading to a less gut-filling, more appetizing eating experience.

The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions tasted fresh and added a delicious crunch to the burger.

I also liked the beef patties on this burger the most out of the ones I tried.

burger king triple whopper

I would definitely order the Burger King Triple Whopper with cheese again.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger patties had a smoky, savory flavor that made the sandwich taste like it was fresh off the grill. I also thought the patties’ shape, which were larger in circumference but flatter than some of the other burgers, made the sandwich easier to eat.

Overall, I really enjoyed this burger and would definitely order it again, if I have the appetite.

While I’m not sure I’m happy to pay more than $10 for any fast-food burger, it was a very generous serving and the most flavorful out of the bunch, without being overwhelmingly huge.

21 of the best and worst outfits Usha Vance has worn as second lady

Updated

  • Usha Vance’s fashion has been in the spotlight since she became the second lady.
  • Her best looks have been sparkly ball gowns and outfits with bright colors.
  • Sometimes, the second lady’s outfits don’t suit the event she is attending.

Usha Vance is finding her fashion footing as second lady.

The former lawyer and mother of three started off her tenure in brightly colored outfits and sparkly gowns during inauguration week in January 2025. In her first year as second lady, she wore a variety of outfits for her public appearances, from gowns and suits to jeans and sweaters.

Though she’s had standout fashion moments in the spotlight, they haven’t all been wins. Take a look at the best and worst outfits Vance has worn as second lady so far.

Usha Vance set the tone for her second lady style at the Republican National Convention in July 2024.

Though Vance wasn’t the second lady yet, she shared a glimpse of what her fashion in the role could look like while on the campaign trail.

In July 2024, she spoke at the RNC in a knee-length, form-fitting dress designed by Badgley Mischka.

The bright blue color was a refreshing choice for the event, and the combination of the traditional silhouette and asymmetrical neckline gave the look a modern feel.

Vance completed the outfit with black, open-toed heels.

The outfit Vance wore at a rally the same month was a bit too plain.

Vance accompanied her husband to a rally in Ohio in a light-gray top with a belt at her waist. She paired it with gray trousers.

The outfit would work well as a laid-back office look, but the neutral tone and casual feel were underwhelming for the rally, particularly next to her husband’s suit.

Her floral dress for an August 2024 rally popped in a sea of suits.

In contrast to her gray look, Vance attended a rally in August 2024 in a wrap dress with an exaggerated collar.

Covered in an orange, floral pattern and flaring around her legs, the outfit was both summery and professional. It also contrasted nicely with her husband’s blue suit and tie.

The balance was a bit off in her jacket and floral skirt for an October 2024 rally.

Vance’s next floral look wasn’t as strong as her August look. She attended an October rally in a blue high-neck top, a blue blazer, and a high-waisted skirt covered in yellow flowers.

The patterned skirt was cute, but it almost contrasted too much with her simple top and jacket. The outfit would have felt more cohesive if she had also incorporated yellow into the top half.

The second lady wore a slew of stylish looks during inauguration week in January 2025, starting with a strapless black dress.

She stood out repeatedly the week her husband was inaugurated as vice president, starting with the black Oscar de la Renta gown she wore to a reception at the National Gallery of Art.

The strapless gown featured a sweetheart neckline, an asymmetrical hemline, and crystal brooches on the bodice. It was elegant and had just enough sparkle to stand out.

The same month, her white coat for a wreath-laying ceremony popped next to Melania Trump’s all-black look.

While the first lady wore all black to a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, Vance opted for a white coat from Sergio Hudson. She wore brown gloves and boots with the jacket.

Despite its bright color, the simplicity of the look ensured it still felt serious enough for the occasion.

She also wore a stylish coat for the January 2025 inauguration ceremony.

The second lady turned to Oscar de la Renta for her Inauguration Day outfit. She arrived in a pink coat and a matching dress. The coat came with a scarf, which Vance wore tucked into a thin belt around her waist.

Taupe Manolo Blahnik boots and matching gloves completed the feminine ensemble, which seemed to take inspiration from silhouettes favored by Jackie Kennedy.

The second lady changed into a sparkly dress for the inaugural balls.

Reem Acra designed her shimmering blue gown, one of the best looks at the 2025 inaugural balls.

The strapless dress cinched at the waist and had sparkles that cascaded above the neckline. It was festive and stylish.

A blue dress Vance wore in France in February 2025 could have stood out more with statement accessories.

In February, Vance accompanied her husband to meet Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, arriving in a blue dress designed by Favorite Daughter.

The top of the dress looked like a loose blouse, cinching low on her waist before flowing into an ankle-length skirt. She paired the dress with black shoes.

The dress was pretty and professional, but the second lady didn’t wear any accessories, making the look seem incomplete. A statement watch or necklace could have elevated the ensemble.

A pair of teal pants that she wore in March 2025 were more distracting than fashionable.

In March, the Vances hosted Ireland’s prime minister, Micheál Martin, and his wife, Mary O’Shea, for a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast at their home in DC.

For the occasion, Vance wore a navy Veronica Beard blazer, pairing it with a high-neck black top, teal trousers, and simple pumps.

Although the pants were on theme for St. Patrick’s Day, they didn’t look cohesive with the rest of the second lady’s dark-toned outfit. She could have tied her outfit together by incorporating teal or another lighter color into the top half of her look.

In April 2025, the second lady wore a patterned dress that seemed too casual for a ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

Vance wore a black-and-gray patterned dress from Ba&sh to attend a Good Friday church service at St. Peter’s Basilica.

The dress, which had short sleeves and a tiered skirt, looked a bit out of place at the ceremony, as other attendees wore fully black dresses. If the garment hadn’t been printed, it would have worked better for the event.

Later the same month, she wore an eye-catching dress for a visit to India.

Vance arrived in New Delhi wearing a dress from Saloni in the shade “Hibiscus,” a pale red that coordinated with her husband’s tie.

The dress had a high neckline, and the skirt cinched at her waist before flowing to her ankles. The tailored ensemble looked effortlessly chic, a vibe that Vance played up with sunglasses and nude heels.

The modern spin on second lady attire was a solid choice.

The striped pattern on her sundress during the same trip was chic and laid-back.

During her trip to India, Vance visited the Taj Mahal with her family and wore a blue-and-white striped sundress.

The midi dress had a collared neckline and was cinched at the waist, and Vance paired it with white loafers.

The preppy outfit matched the color scheme of her sons’ outfits, which added a nice touch.

Vance wore a traditional look to meet Pope Leo XIV in May 2025, but the sleeves were distracting.

When Vance joined her husband and the Rubios to meet Pope Leo XIV, she wore a tea-length black dress designed by Tuckernuck. It had a high neckline and bubble sleeves.

She paired the dress with black heels and a veil, as is traditional for women to wear when meeting the pope. The modest look could have been a perfect fit for the occasion, though the puffed sleeves seemed too big for the moment.

Vance would have been better off wearing a simpler silhouette, as Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio did.

The second lady wore one of her most fashion-forward looks to date to attend a production of “Les Misérables” at the Kennedy Center in June 2025.

Vance arrived in a navy gown from Shoshanna for the opening night of “Les Misérables.”

The $635 dress had a strapless, asymmetrical neckline and a column-style silhouette. Sparkly embellishments on the bodice and waistline gave it shape, and a slit on one side added a daring edge.

The dress was similar to both Melania Trump’s and Cheryl Hines’ gowns that evening, though the second lady stood out thanks to the sparkles.

She kept her accessories simple, wearing dark pumps, diamond earrings, and an updo. Her look also coordinated with her husband’s blue suit, making her look even more stylish.

Vance wore a stylish and patriotic travel outfit in October 2025.

Heading to San Diego to celebrate 250 years of the Marine Corps, Vance wore cropped jeans, a cream sweater with an American flag on it, and white sneakers.

The look was casual and patriotic, striking the perfect tone for a vice presidential transit look.

Another travel look she wore the same month, though, wasn’t quite as successful.

Vance was photographed again in her travel attire, walking to Air Force Two to fly to Israel with the vice president.

Though her outfit was similar in silhouette to the travel look she wore to California, the color scheme didn’t quite work. Her long-sleeve top blended into her skin tone in the evening lighting, and her floral pants felt out of place for fall. Overall, the outfit didn’t feel cohesive enough for a political trip.

The detailing on the pants Vance wore in October 2025 didn’t quite work.

On the trip to Israel, Vance wore a white suit. Her fitted jacket was pretty, but the V-cuts at the hem of her wide-legged pants distracted from the outfit’s clean lines.

Likewise, the cropped hems would work best with a boot, but Vance wore taupe heels with them instead, leaving just her ankles exposed.

Vance could have swapped the trousers for pants with no cutouts and selected different shoes for a more elevated look.

The black suit Vance wore in November 2025 was a stronger look.

Vance accompanied her husband to the White House for the signing of an executive order in November 2025, wearing a black suit.

Her Veronica Beard blazer had gold buttons, and her trousers were slim-fitting. She wore the blazer with no visible shirt and black heels, giving it a fashion-forward edge.

The outfit was both professional and stylish.

The colors of her outfit for an American Red Cross event in December 2025 weren’t the best.

Speaking at an American Red Cross holiday event in December 2025, Vance wore a dark gray, checked coat with flared, taupe pants and black heels.

The pants weren’t the best choice for an event where she was speaking, as they were nearly the same color as the podium in front of her and didn’t quite match her coat.

A darker pair of trousers could have made the outfit shine.

Vance’s black suit for the February 2026 State of the Union was a great choice.

Vance attended the 2026 State of the Union in a dark suit, much like Melania Trump.

She paired it with a black top for a monochromatic ensemble, along with a black-and-silver necklace and diamond earrings, which she showed off with an updo.

The outfit felt serious, sleek, and professional, which was a solid tone for the formal event.

35 of the best and worst looks Melania Trump has worn as first lady

Updated

  • Melania Trump’s style has been closely watched since she became first lady.
  • Her best first lady looks mix her personal style with a professional edge.
  • Melania Trump has also worn some controversial outfits over the years.

Melania Trump has been quietly reinventing her style in her second tenure as first lady.

Since she returned to the White House in 2025, she has largely struck a more subdued tone with her attire than she did when President Donald Trump first took office in 2017.

Since becoming first lady, Melania Trump’s style has often drawn attention, with some of her outfits proving controversial.

Take a look at some of the best and worst looks she’s worn during Donald Trump’s presidency.

Melania Trump paid homage to Jackie Kennedy when she debuted as first lady.

Ralph Lauren Collection designed the knee-length, powder-blue dress Melania wore to Trump’s inauguration in 2017, along with the coordinating shrug and gloves.

She accessorized the outfit with pearl earrings and blue, pointed-toe heels.

The full ensemble evoked Jackie Kennedy’s style. From the bright color to the nod to one of America’s most iconic first ladies, Melania’s look was the perfect choice for her husband’s first inauguration.

Her custom gown for the 2017 inaugural balls featured standout three-dimensional detailing.

Hervé Pierre custom-designed Melania’s off-the-shoulder dress for the inaugural ball.

The cream dress had an A-line silhouette, a thigh-high slit on one side, and three-dimensional fabric that curved across the bodice. A thin red belt cinched at the waist for a pop of color.

The dress felt high-fashion, connecting the first lady to her past as a model as she stepped into a new role.

Melania’s outfit for a visit to Texas in August 2017 got attention online.

In August 2017, the Trumps visited Corpus Christi, Texas, following Hurricane Harvey to assess recovery efforts.

The pair wore casual attire, with Melania arriving in a white button-down, black jeans, and sneakers. She also added a black baseball hat to her look that said “FLOTUS,” first lady of the United States, on the front.

Melania’s outfit quickly became a source of social-media chatter. Some said her hat called attention to her in the wake of the natural disaster, while others praised her casual outfit.

Her suit for a Canadian state visit in October 2017 was more fitting for the occasion.

When greeting Justin and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau at the White House in October 2017, Melania wore a gray pinstripe suit instead of a dress.

The suit featured high-waisted pants, and she paired it with a white button-down and an untied black tie. The outfit was unexpected for a first lady, offering a fun style moment.

The president and first lady had a rare matching moment in April 2018, wearing coordinating striped looks.

In April 2018, the Trumps hosted Japan’s prime minister at the time, Shinzo Abe, and his wife, Akie Abe, at Mar-a-Lago, during which the first lady wore an off-the-shoulder dress from Carolina Herrera.

The dress was covered in black and white stripes, with thicker black stripes on the bodice and the pattern reversed on the midi-length skirt.

She added white heels to her look, and Trump wore a navy and white striped tie that matched his wife’s look. The coordinating outfits were an atypical but welcome choice for the couple.

The same month, Melania stunned in a black minidress and coordinating coat.

Melania greeted President Macron of France and his wife, Brigitte, in a black minidress and black pumps at the White House.

The standout feature of her outfit was a Givenchy tuxedo cape, which added a flair of personality to the otherwise simple look.

The semi-sheer dress she wore to a state dinner for the Macrons during the same trip was a little too busy.

The first lady changed into a silver Chanel dress for the dinner.

Most of the form-fitting dress was covered in textured fabric, while the top of the bodice and bottom of the skirt were made of a sheer, black fabric adorned with silver embellishments.

The fabrics didn’t blend well, making the dress look too busy. It would have been a better look without the sheer fabric.

In June 2018, Melania received backlash for wearing a jacket that said, “I really don’t care, do u?”

In June 2018, Melania visited an immigration facility in McAllen, Texas, where children were living, wearing a green Zara jacket that said “I really don’t care, do u?” on the back.

Critics said the jacket was insensitive to wear for the visit, critiquing both the first lady and the president for the fashion faux pas.

Melania’s former aide, Stephanie Grisham, wrote in her book “I’ll Take Your Questions Now” that the president yelled at Melania for wearing the jacket, though Trump and the first lady both said she wore it to send a message to the left-wing media.

A different bow would have improved her dress for an Independence Day celebration in July 2018.

Melania wore a floor-length wrap dress from Ralph Lauren to celebrate Independence Day 2018.

The blue-and-white gingham dress was fun and festive for the holiday, but the oversize red belt tied at her waist overwhelmed the look.

If the first lady had swapped the bow for a thinner belt, her dress would have been more effective.

Melania’s suit for a trip to Egypt in October 2018 also raised some eyebrows.

Melania posed for photos in front of pyramids in Egypt wearing cream trousers, a white blouse, a black tie, and a sand-colored Ralph Lauren blazer. A white-and-black boater hat completed the look.

The outfit may have been innocuously stylish in a different venue, but some social-media users thought the outfit looked similar to one worn by “Raiders of the Lost Ark” villain René Belloq during his visit to the pyramids in the film.

It wasn’t the first time Melania faced criticism for one of her outfits on her visit to Africa. During her tour of the pyramids and the Great Sphinx, Melania told reporters, “I wish people would focus on what I do, not what I wear,” following backlash for wearing a white pith helmet.

“You know what? We just completed an amazing trip,” she added. “We went to Ghana, we went to Malawi, we went to Kenya, here we are in Egypt. I want to talk about my trip, not what I wear.”

Brown pants weren’t a great choice for Melania’s evening arrival at the White House in December 2018.

Donald and Melania Trump arrived at the White House on the evening of December 27, holding hands as they walked across the lawn.

While the president was in a suit, Melania wore a green jacket, light-brown pants, and matching shoes.

The pants might have been a better choice for a daytime look, as it was difficult for some to tell if the first lady was even wearing bottoms at first glance in the dark. The addition of sunglasses to her nighttime look was also an odd choice.

Melania’s outfit would have worked better during the day or with different pants.

In April 2019, Melania rocked a stylish polka-dot dress.

In April 2019, the first lady was photographed at the White House in a black-and-white polka-dot dress designed by Alessandra Rich.

The high-neck dress was cinched at the waist with a black belt, coordinating with the dots on the dress, and it hit her mid-calf.

Melania wore a cream coat over her shoulders and her signature sunglasses, adding glamour to the feminine look.

Gloves brought an elegant touch to her look for a June 2019 state dinner in the UK.

During a visit to the UK, Melania attended a state dinner with the royal family in a Dior gown.

A layer of semi-sheer fabric covered the gown’s scooped neckline, forming points on the top of the bodice before transitioning into white fabric. The dress hugged her figure before flaring slightly at her waist.

Melania wore white, elbow-length gloves with the dress. The look was fitting for dining with royalty.

She appeared to take a page out of Kate Middleton’s fashion book when she and the president hosted the royals for dinner during the same trip.

Ahead of a dinner at Winfield House, where the American ambassador to the UK lives, Melania was photographed in a red Givenchy gown.

Melania’s floor-length dress was sleeveless and featured a built-in cape, a silhouette Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, often favors.

Melania’s yellow and pink outfit in December 2019 was almost too colorful.

During another visit to the UK in December 2019, Melania stepped out in a high-neck, cape coat from Valentino. The coat was mustard yellow, and Melania paired it with a pink dress and coordinating pumps.

The jacket was a big statement in and of itself, so the look would have been more effective if the first lady had worn a more neutral color with it than bright pink.

Melania’s black-and-white look for the Daytona 500 in February 2020 was stylish.

Melania’s black Dior sundress was fairly simple. The midi-length dress featured a V-neckline and a white, dotted pattern.

The white lace belt from Alaïa and white Christian Louboutin pumps she wore with the dress made the look cohesive, and she also added sunglasses to the outfit.

The look balanced Melania’s personal style and traditional first lady attire.

A pink dress Melania wore during the virtual Republican National Convention in August 2020 would have been better without the bow detailing.

Melania appeared alongside Trump in a hot-pink midi-dress from Jason Wu at the 2020 RNC.

The dress featured a boat neckline and a flared skirt, and two black bows sat on the waistline, which appeared to be cinched with elastic. Melania wore black pumps with the dress.

The bows on the dress could have been chic, but they looked a bit crumpled throughout the night, particularly because they sat atop the ruched waistline and contrasted so heavily with the pink fabric. The dress would have been a better fit if there had been just one or no bows on the waistline.

She wore a pleated dress at the 2020 RNC, but the green color felt out of place.

Melania wore a cape dress to close out the RNC, choosing a neon-green piece from Valentino.

The ankle-length, high-neck dress was covered in vertical pleats and featured two swaths of fabric flowing out from her shoulders like a cape. She added a thin pink belt and pink pumps to the outfit.

The silhouette was beautiful, but the green color was an odd choice for the RNC. Vanity Fair reported that it allowed social-media users to easily make memes out of the outfit using green screen technology.

If she had worn the dress in a different color, Melania’s look would have been a slam dunk.

In November 2020, Melania wore a gingham coat that featured a stylish, built-in scarf.

Melania oversaw the delivery of the 2020 White House Christmas tree in a gingham coat from Balenciaga.

The loose-fitting coat featured an off-center line of buttons, and the collar formed a scarf that wrapped around one of Melania’s shoulders. Quarter-length sleeves showed off the first lady’s black gloves, just as the knee-length hem spotlighted her black boots from Alaïa.

The look was effortlessly chic.

Melania’s final outfit as first lady in January 2021 offered a full-circle moment.

When Trump left office in January 2021, Melania chose to wear an all-black outfit.

She paired a form-fitting Dolce & Gabbana dress with a cropped Chanel coat, gloves, Christian Louboutin pumps, and dark sunglasses.

The look seemed to nod to Jackie Kennedy, just as her first outfit as first lady did. However, the darker hues spoke to the more somber tone of the day for the Trumps.

Melania also made headlines for changing into a beachy dress before arriving at Mar-a-Lago later in the day.

When she returned to the White House on January 20, Melania set a new tone as first lady.

Rather than wearing another pastel look to mark the beginning of her husband’s second term as president, Melania donned navy and white for the 2025 inauguration.

Adam Lippes designed her coat, which she paired with a white scarf, navy pumps, and a custom boater-style hat from Eric Javits. Boater hats are typically worn in summer, but the wool piece Melania wore offered a winter version.

Although the hat got some negative attention online as people compared it to the one the Hamburglar or V in “V For Vendetta” wore, Melania’s inaugural outfit was a savvy choice. The look set a serious tone, blending professional style with Melania’s personal taste.

Melania also managed to pull attention from Trump with the look, which was a feat considering how many eyes he had on him throughout the day.

And her custom dress for the 2025 inaugural balls had a modern edge.

Melania opted for another custom Hervé Pierre dress for the 2025 inaugural balls, arriving in a black-and-white dress that felt like a continuation of the fashion story she started with the look she wore during the day.

The strapless dress had an off-the-shoulder neckline, and a zig-zag of black fabric adorned the bodice before framing a slit on one side of the skirt.

A coordinating choker with a brooch completed the stylish gown.

Melania’s trench coat for the 2025 Easter celebration went against tradition.

Traditionally, Easter fashion calls for pastel tones and festive prints like gingham, allowing people to have fun with their outfits.

However, Melania arrived at the 2025 Easter Egg Roll at the White House in a simple cream trench coat from Mackage and heels designed by Roger Vivier.

The subdued look was a shift from Melania’s more colorful outfits for previous Easter celebrations at the White House. Likewise, Mackage, a brand founded and headquartered in Canada, was a surprising choice for the first lady, given the ongoing trade dispute between the US and its northern neighbor.

Later that month, the first lady wisely chose an outfit made by Italian designers for Pope Francis’ funeral.

Melania joined her husband at Pope Francis’ funeral at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

She wore a black coatdress designed by Dolce & Gabbana for the occasion, as well as lace gloves and a lace veil from the fashion house.

Wearing an Italian designer was fitting for the occasion since the Catholic Church is based in the country, though Melania also favors Dolce & Gabbana when she isn’t in Italy.

Melania wore a pretty yet pricey dress to see “Les Misérables” at the Kennedy Center in June.

Melania chose a $3,900 Bottega Veneta dress for the show.

The dress had an asymmetrical neckline and gold detailing on the shoulder and waist. Melania paired the designer gown with silver and gold Christian Louboutin pumps.

The dress was pretty, but Melania’s black and white looks for Trump’s second term are starting to feel a bit repetitive. A pop of color could have made the dress stand out more.

A few days later, she wore an American designer for the US Army’s 250th anniversary parade.

Melania appeared alongside Trump at the US Army’s 250th anniversary parade in Washington, DC, wearing another suit from Adam Lippes.

Both her $2,490 jacket and $1,190 skirt were cream-colored, with a subtle navy pinstripe pattern. The double-breasted jacket and pencil skirt had a looser, relaxed fit.

Blue Christian Louboutin heels completed the ensemble.

On September 4, Melania attended a meeting of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education.

She wore a soft gray linen suit that featured white pinstripes. The jacket was oversized, and the pants were wide-legged. The first lady added structure to the look with a fitted white T-shirt and a white belt.

Stilettos completed the chic menswear look.

The bright yellow dress she wore to a state banquet at Windsor Castle was memorable, but it looked slightly out of place at a dinner with royals.

On September 16, the president and first lady arrived in the UK for a state visit. The following evening, they attended a state banquet with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family.

Melania wore a bright yellow dress designed by Carolina Herrera to the dinner. The dress had an off-the-shoulder neckline, a column skirt, and a slit on the side. She added even more color to the ensemble with a wide, purple belt and bright green, dangly earrings.

It was nice to see Melania add some color to her wardrobe in 2025, but the bright hue and belt made the dress look a bit too casual for the event. The silhouette was pretty, but the first lady may have been better off wearing the gown in a more subdued color.

Later the same month, Melania wore a chic white suit, but a different top could have improved it.

On September 23, Melania accompanied the president on a visit to the UN General Assembly, wearing a white blazer and tailored pants from Dolce & Gabbana.

The suit was a strong choice, as the contrast of the long blazer and cropped pants felt professional and chic, and the cream Christian Louboutin shoes she paired with the look were stylish, too.

However, the camel-colored blouse from Max Mara that she wore with the suit was almost too close to Melania’s skin tone. The look would have popped more with a different colored shirt.

Melania could have worn a more festive look for the 2025 Halloween celebration at the White House.

When the president and first lady passed out candy at the White House on Halloween, neither opted to wear a costume. Instead, Melania donned a wool coat from Marni, which nodded to the holiday with orange trim on the collar, pockets, and lining.

She wore the khaki-colored coat buttoned to the collar, and it cinched at her waist with a thick belt — one of her go-to silhouettes. She paired the coat with taupe Manolo Blahnik heels.

While the orange aspects of the look had a subtle Halloween feel, the outfit just didn’t feel festive enough for the holiday, especially when compared to the plethora of decorations covering the White House for the event. Melania would have made a stronger statement in a full orange coat or a black and orange look.

For dinner at the White House in November 2025, Melania chose an elegant green gown.

On November 18, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, dined at the White House during his visit to the US.

Melania donned a $3,350 Elie Saab dress for the occasion. The deep-green dress featured a strapless neckline, and ruching on both the bodice and the skirt added texture. A slit broke up the floor-length skirt, and Melania completed the look with black heels and sparkly earrings.

Every bit of Melania’s look seemed designed to welcome Crown Prince Mohammed. The dress was similar in color to Saudi Arabia’s national flag, seeming to nod to the nation. Plus, in November 2024, Elie Saab marked 45 years of his brand with “1001 Seasons of Elie Saab,” a massive fashion show held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Her sparkly dress for a New Year’s Eve celebration in December 2025 was a nice change of pace.

Melania celebrated the end of 2025 at Trump’s annual party at Mar-a-Lago wearing a sparkly, silver gown.

Designed by The New Arrivals, the $1,450 dress was sleeveless, with a scooped neckline, hugging Melania’s figure as it flowed into a midi-length skirt. She paired the dress with bedazzled Christian Louboutin shoes and loose waves.

The look was festive and fitting for Florida weather, offering a refreshing change from her more subdued style.

Melania’s black ensemble for the premiere of her documentary was lackluster.

The first lady attended the premiere of her documentary “Melania” in a Dolce & Gabbana skirt suit.

Black buttons lined the center of the jacket, which was cinched at Melania’s waist with a black belt. The column skirt hit her mid-calf, spotlighting her black pumps.

The outfit might have been fine for any number of first lady engagements, but it felt too understated for the premiere of her film.

A black gown with a professional flair may have been more appropriate for the occasion.

Trump invited only Republican governors to the National Governors Association dinner, which was held in the East Room of the White House on February 21.

The event seemed to have a formal dress code, as indicated by most attendees’ ensembles. The president and other men in attendance wore tuxedos, while women, including Usha Vance, wore gowns. Melania, though, went more casual for the event.

She paired silver, patterned Dolce & Gabbana pants with a black blouse that had tie detailing. Metallic pumps and shiny earrings completed the outfit.

Melania’s look may have been a good choice for a girls’ night, but it wasn’t fancy enough for a formal dinner at the White House. A gown with the same texture as her pants would have been a better choice.

Her dark suit for the 2026 State of the Union address was a solid choice.

After wearing the designer to the dinner at the White House, Melania tapped Dolce & Gabbana again for her State of the Union look.

She wore a deep charcoal suit from the brand, featuring a tailored jacket and wide-legged pants. She kept the look simple, pairing it with a white blouse, black Manolo Blahnik pumps, and stud earrings.

The outfit struck a nice balance between simplicity and luxury.

The best and worst looks celebrities wore to the 2026 BAFTAs

  • The 2026 BAFTA Film Awards were held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday.
  • Chase Infiniti and Michael B. Jordan were among the stars who wore standout red-carpet looks.
  • Other celebrities missed the mark with their outfits, including Kirsten Dunst.

The biggest film stars of the year gathered in London on Sunday to celebrate the big screen.

Celebrities, along with the Prince and Princess of Wales, attended the BAFTA Film Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, where “One Battle After Another” and “Hamnet” took home top awards.

There were plenty of stylish looks on the red carpet, but there were also some lackluster fashion moments.

Take a look at the best and worst outfits celebrities wore to the 2026 BAFTAs.

Chase Infiniti’s gravity-defying skirt elevated her strapless gown.

The “One Battle After Another” nominee made her BAFTA debut in a maroon Louis Vuitton gown.

The strapless dress hugged her figure before flaring at the knee, creating the illusion that her skirt was floating around her ankles.

Coordinating pumps and De Beers jewelry, including bejeweled dangly earrings, completed her avant-garde ensemble.

The fabric of Jessie Buckley’s gown didn’t suit the silhouette.

Buckley, who won a BAFTA for her performance in “Hamnet,” walked the red carpet in a bright-blue Chanel gown that was custom-designed by Matthieu Blazy.

The gown cinched at Buckley’s waist and dipped in the back, flowing into a column-style, floor-length skirt. Silver brooches sat on each of her shoulders for a touch of glamour.

The silhouette was pretty and evoked a Grecian feel, but the dress was made of heavy velvet. The silhouette and fabric didn’t look right together, and the dress may have popped more on the red carpet if it had been made of something like chiffon instead.

Buckley’s costar Paul Mescal and his girlfriend Gracie Abrams looked effortlessly chic on the red carpet.

Mescal and Abrams made their red-carpet debut as a couple in style at the BAFTAs.

Mescal, who was nominated for best supporting actor for “Hamnet,” wore a Prada suit. His jacket was unbuttoned, he wore no tie, and his shirt cuffs were folded over for a relaxed look.

Abrams also wore black, choosing a Chanel gown. Her dress was adorned with sparkly embellishments, with the neckline trimmed with green beading and the gown itself adorned with fish.

Their stylish outfits went well together, but didn’t feel too matchy-matchy.

Michael B. Jordan’s charcoal jacket was the star of his look.

Nominated for his performance in “Sinners,” Jordan wore a Prada suit to the BAFTAs.

His double-breasted, charcoal jacket had padded, pointed shoulders. Jordan paired it with a black blouse, black tie, and slim-fitting black pants.

A silver brooch brought a touch of glamour to the tailored suit.

Kirsten Dunst’s pink jacket overpowered the rest of her ensemble.

Dunst arrived at the awards show in a Valentino ensemble. The look included a white blouse, a black skirt with a cutout on the waist, strappy black heels, and a pink jacket.

Her jacket featured voluminous, bubbled sleeves and thick lapels on either side of its opening for a dramatic look.

There were pretty elements to the outfit, but the jacket distracted from them. She may have looked more stylish on the red carpet if she had just left the jacket at home.

The dramatic cutout on Renate Reinsve’s gown made it stand out.

Reinsve attended the BAFTAs in a Louis Vuitton gown.

The strapless, black gown had a cutout on one side of the bodice, leaving her torso exposed in a triangle shape. The skirt flowed to the ground and into a subtle train. A silver choker sat on her neck, completing the simple but beautiful outfit.

The actor, who was nominated for her performance in “Sentimental Value,” wore one of the most fashionable looks of the night.

6 of the best and 5 of the worst looks at New York Fashion Week 2026

  • New York Fashion Week runs from February 11 to February 16 this year.
  • Celebrities including Anne Hathaway, Pamela Anderson, and Elle Fanning have attended so far.
  • The best looks have sparkled and stood out, while some of the worst were mismatched and understated.

The best of fall and winter fashion is officially on display in the Big Apple.

The first New York Fashion Week of 2026 kicked off on February 11 and will continue through February 16.

Designers like Ralph Lauren and Coach have showcased their new styles, while celebrities, including Anne Hathaway, have made fashionable appearances at runway shows.

Here’s a look at the best and worst A-list looks we’ve seen.

Anne Hathaway was stunning in a black Ralph Lauren gown.

Lexie Moreland/Getty Images

She attended the designer’s fall runway show wearing a high-neck halter gown made from gauze-like fabric.

It wrapped around her body, creating a subtle see-through effect, and its skirt extended into a short train.

She wore it with a fuzzy jacket that she carried around her waist.

Pamela Anderson’s black-and-white outfit missed the mark.

She made an appearance at the Tory Burch fall/winter runway show wearing a preppy look from the brand. It comprised a white pleated skirt with a black, button-up blouse tucked in.

Unfortunately, the two pieces sat loosely on Anderson and appeared too formal.

Her leather belt, sheer tights, pointed heels, and black purse added some fun to the look, but the base layers were ultimately too simple for them to work.

Lili Reinhart was chic in a statement skirt.

While entering the Ralph Lauren show, Reinhart was photographed wearing a brown tweed blazer as a top with a thick brown belt holding it closed at the waist.

She also wore a long black skirt covered in leather fringe, which added texture and contrast to the ensemble.

High black boots and a small brown purse completed the fun, fashion-forward look.

Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral had a sharp fashion moment, but Marcello Hernández’s look needed one tweak.

The couple attended the Tory Burch show together in contrasting outfits.

Cabral, an architect, wore a blue pleated skirt atop a darker, unbuttoned blazer, and brown Tory Burch heels with silver embellishments. The look was stylish and sharp.

Then there was Hernández, the “Saturday Night Live” comedian, who opted for khaki pants, suede sneakers, and a two-toned sweater.

Though the latter two pieces looked great on him, his trousers could have benefited from a bit of steaming and tailoring.

Amanda Seyfried’s mixed metals worked for her.

Also at the Tory Burch show, Seyfried wore a golden, long-sleeved blouse atop a blue midi skirt with silver stripes. She also wore white heels with silver adornments and carried a blue purse.

The mix of two metallic shades with blue tones created a unique, fun color combination that complemented her hair and skin tone.

Suni Lee’s multicolored look overwhelmed her.

Outside the Tory Burch runway show, the Olympic gymnast was photographed wearing an oversize blue jacket with a form-fitting wrap skirt in a vibrant red shade.

The two pieces were drastically different in style, and they overwhelmed her petite frame. They also didn’t match the lime-green top she wore or her black accessories.

Caleb McLaughlin was cool and casual at the Coach show.

The “Stranger Things” actor attended the show in blue jeans, a button-up top, and a leather jacket that matched his sneakers and Coach purse.

The latter piece was especially fun. It featured a prominent pocket reminiscent of a coin purse and two keychains that looked like miniature books.

McLaughlin has been one of the best-dressed men at New York Fashion Week so far.

Elle Fanning’s outfit had potential, but it needed a change.

Elle Fanning at the Coach fall runway show during New York Fashion Week.

Fanning entered the Coach show in a white gown with a mesh, star-print overlay. It was fun, feminine, and the perfect piece to pair with her cropped leather jacket and brown purse.

That said, she also wore thick white boots with the outfit. A simple pair of heels or flats would have been more in line with the look.

Kelsey Merritt stood out at the Carolina Herrera show.

The model sat in the stands wearing skinny black pants with a billowing blouse. The semi-sheer white garment had a high neckline, balloon sleeves, and extra fabric at the waist that extended into a train.

The top piece was dramatic and memorable, while her pants were perfectly tailored to highlight her dramatically pointed heels.

Ben Platt needed more color variety in his New York Fashion Week look.

For the Michael Kors runway show, the actor wore an all-white ensemble that included trousers, a loose-fitting blouse, sneakers, and a trench coat.

The outfit would have worked for him if it featured more than one color. Because the entire ensemble was stark white, each piece blended into the others, creating the illusion that he was wearing a baggy jumpsuit.

I-ranked-13-fast-food-double-cheeseburgers-from-worst-to-best.jpeg

I ranked 13 fast-food double cheeseburgers from worst to best. My favorite was one of the cheapest.

Updated

  • We ranked double cheeseburgers from 13 fast-food chains to see which one reigns supreme.
  • 7th Street Burger, the smallest chain, blew me away with its saucy smash burger.
  • I thought In-N-Out’s famous Double-Double was great value and delicious.

Double the patties can mean double the deliciousness, but not all fast-food double cheeseburgers are created equal.

For a definitive ranking, I tried practically every double cheeseburger on the market to determine which one was best based on taste and value.

I tried double cheeseburgers from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, Shake Shack, White Castle, Whataburger, P. Terry’s, Five Guys, Cook Out, Checkers, Sonic, 7th Street Burger, and In-N-Out.

Here’s every fast-food double cheeseburger ranked from worst to best.

My least favorite double cheeseburger was from Burger King. It cost me $4.09.

Burger King’s double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger was under $5, but I’m not sure it was worth the price.

It comes with two of the chain’s beef patties, American cheese, pickles, mustard, and ketchup on a sesame-seed bun.

burger king double cheeseburger

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It comes with one slice of cheese.

This burger was super filling, but I liked the other burgers I tried more.

burger king double cheeseburger

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Right away, I tasted the thick beef patties. The burger had traveled a little more than 15 minutes from my local Burger King to my apartment, but the meat was still juicy and the cheese nicely melted.

The pickle slices were thick and crunchy, and I enjoyed the sesame-seed bun, which added a nice textural element. But I thought there was just a little too much ketchup, which will likely vary depending on who’s making your burger that day.

It was also a little heavy for my liking. It filled me up a little more than I had anticipated before jumping into the rest of the burger comparison. Still, for a burger that costs just under $4, that might be more of an asset than a hindrance if you want a filling, inexpensive lunch.

Next was Wendy’s double cheeseburger, which the chain calls a Double Stack. I ordered it for $4.49.

wendys meal

Wendy’s double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It was about the same price as the burgers from McDonald’s and Burger King, though it landed squarely in the middle in terms of value.

A Wendy’s double cheeseburger comes with two junior-size hamburger patties, American cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickles, and sweet onion.

wendys meal

The Wendy’s Double Stack.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The toppings looked a little stingy, and they were clustered in the middle of the sandwich. I would have liked to see them more spread out.

The burger bun was fluffy and light, and the toppings had a ton of flavor.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

But I had to get a few bites in to reach the toppings in the center.

The toppings themselves were amazing. I thought the pickles were the most flavorful out of the burgers I tried, and I liked the use of an onion ring rather than diced onion, although I would’ve liked more.

The McDonald’s double cheeseburger cost me $5.99.

The author holds a mcdonalds double cheeseburger

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It was slightly more expensive than Wendy’s version but had more toppings. It came with an extra slice of American cheese plus chopped onions, and I thought it was still relatively affordable.

The double cheeseburger from McDonald’s comes with two beef patties, pickles, chopped onions, ketchup, mustard, and two slices of American cheese.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I was interested to see if the added toppings would amp up the flavor.

I thought the ingredients came together well in this burger, but the bun was a little lackluster.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The bun held everything together and was a good size, but it was a little too soft and didn’t have a lot of flavor on its own. But I enjoyed the amount of condiments and didn’t find them overpowering.

The chopped onions added a lot of flavor, and the burger patties were juicy despite being thinner than the Burger King ones. I liked the added cheese, but didn’t think it was necessary.

Next up was the double-meat Whataburger with cheese.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It costs $8.75 at a Whataburger in Austin, excluding tax and fees.

I ordered it with a large bun, American cheese, grilled peppers and onions, pickles, and ketchup.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger was a decent size and I could see the gooey cheese peeking out from underneath the soft potato bun.

Unlike the other double cheeseburgers, this burger had sliced jalapeño peppers that I imagined would add quite the kick.

open whataburger double cheeseburger

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The ingredients definitely set this burger apart from the others.

I thought the burgers had a delightfully crispy texture to them, and the toppings added a ton of flavor.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The bun was light and fluffy, but I did think the burger patties could have been a little thicker and juicier.

Coming in ninth was the double cheeseburger from P. Terry’s Burger Stand, a regional chain I visited in Austin.

p terrys double cheeseburger

P. Terry’s double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger cost $5.25, making it one of the cheaper burgers I tried.

Despite being less expensive than the Whataburger double cheeseburger, the P. Terry’s burger was larger.

p terrys double cheeseburger

P. Terry’s double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I ordered it with pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, and American cheese.

I again thought the cheese could have been more melted, but the size definitely made up for that small detail.

p terrys double cheeseburger

P. Terry’s double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

One of the benefits of ordering from P. Terry’s is that you can easily customize your burger and add a number of toppings, including grilled onions, the chain’s special sauce, tomato, lettuce, and more.

I thought the burgers were juicy and the pickles had a tart crunch to them.

P. Terry’s double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The bun was slightly underwhelming, but I thought it was an excellent, large burger with tons of flavor, especially for the low price. I also thought the mustard really came through and added a lot to the burger.

The double cheeseburger from Shake Shack was the second most expensive burger I tried.

shake shack double cheeseburger in paper wrapping on blue background

Shake Shack double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I paid $13.89 for a double cheeseburger. I could customize my toppings, but I went with pickles, onions, and Shack sauce.

Right away, I thought the burger was massive.

Shake Shack double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger patties were perfectly crispy on the outside and covered in gooey melted cheese. The pickles also looked large and homemade. It was even heavy to pick up.

The toppings were generous and the chain’s signature Shack sauce, which is a mayo-based sauce with a slight mustard flavor, made it really tasty.

Shake Shack double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The cheese was thick and perfectly melted.

However, biting into the Shake Shack burger was a little overwhelming, in my opinion.

Shake Shack double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger was huge, which was both an asset and a hindrance. I struggled to get through more than a few bites.

However, despite being the second most expensive burger, I thought it was worth the price. The burger patties were much thicker than the other burgers I tried, and the toppings took it over the edge in terms of flavor.

Overall, I was impressed … but stuffed.

In seventh place was the double-decker burger with cheese from Checkers.

checkers double cheeseburger

Checkers double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burger has since been replaced with the Big Buford, which has all the same ingredients but a bakery-style bun instead of a sesame-seed bun. The burger costs $8.39 at my local Checkers in Brooklyn.

I thought this burger was a little pricey for the size.

checkers double cheeseburger

Checkers double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It was smaller than my hand, though it did include a variety of toppings like tomato, lettuce, and red onion.

The burger also comes with American cheese, dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on a toasted bun.

The burger patties were very juicy, and the toppings tasted fresh.

checkers double cheeseburger

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I also thought the American cheese was very tangy and flavorful. Overall, I enjoyed the combination of flavors. However, the price prevented this burger from ranking higher.

I also tried the double cheese slider from White Castle.

white castle double cheeseburger on blue background

White Castle double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

White Castle sliders tend to be eaten in pairs, so I ordered two. Each burger cost me $3.69, so I ended up paying $7.38.

The burgers were small but packed with flavor.

white castle double cheeseburger on blue background

White Castle double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The burgers smelled strongly of onions and condiments the second I removed them from the bag.

The amount of toppings on each burger was generous.

white castle double cheeseburger on blue background

White Castle double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The pickles were crunchy and flavorful. Though the burgers each had a bun sandwiched in the middle of the burger, it wasn’t too bready — instead, it allowed the flavors to really come together while still being filling.

I was blown away by the cheeseburgers from White Castle, a result I admittedly wasn’t expecting.

white castle double cheeseburger on blue background

White Castle double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

As the cheapest and smallest burgers, I was expecting them to be a little lackluster. However, I found that good things definitely come in small packages. The onions, condiments, and pickles were flavorful, but it was the beef that really impressed me.

The small-but-mighty burger was one of the most flavorful out of the ones I tried, easy to eat, and perfectly priced.

My fifth-favorite double cheeseburger was from Five Guys.

five guys cheeseburger

Five Guys cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Five Guys doesn’t technically have a “double cheeseburger” — its regular cheeseburgers already come with two slices of cheese and two beef patties.

My burger cost $13.55, excluding taxes and fees, making it the most expensive burger I tried.

I was able to customize my toppings, but I ordered the burger with pickles, grilled onions, ketchup, and mustard.

five guys cheeseburger

Five Guys cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Right away, I noticed that the toppings were generous. The pickle slices were large, and none of the toppings cost extra to add.

The burger was large without being too intimidating.

five guys cheeseburger

Five Guys cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I thought it was a perfect size. It required two hands to pick up and eat, but it wasn’t as heavy as the burger from Shake Shack. Slices of melted American cheese coated each burger, and there wasn’t so much sauce that it dripped out from underneath the sesame-seed buns.

The burger patties were crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside.

five guys cheeseburger

Five Guys cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

I thought the pickle slices were thick, crunchy, and tart. I also really enjoyed the choice of a sesame-seed bun — it added a bit of texture to each and every bite.

The grilled onions also really impressed me. They were soft and almost caramelized, adding a lot of flavor that I didn’t get from any other burger.

My fourth-favorite double cheeseburger came from Sonic Drive-In.

sonic double cheeseburger in tin foil wrapping on blue background

SuperSonic double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The SuperSonic double cheeseburger was the only burger I tried that came with lettuce and tomato. Since this was the default option, I decided to try it with these toppings rather than specifically remove them.

The burger cost me $9.75, excluding taxes and fees.

The burger came with a hearty serving of shredded lettuce, tomatoes, two slices of cheese, diced onions, pickles, mayonnaise, and ketchup.

open faced sonic double cheeseburger in tin foil wrapping on blue background

Sonic double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

Unlike Sonic’s quarter-pound double cheeseburger, which comes with two junior patties, the full-size burger has a combined half-pound of meat.

The bun was perfectly soft but still held the sauce-covered burger together.

bitten into sonic double cheeseburger in tin foil wrapping on blue background

Sonic double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The ingredients tasted fresh and vibrant. The tomato wasn’t too watery, the lettuce was crisp, and the burgers tasted well-seasoned and juicy. Plus, the burger was a very generous size.

However, despite all these accolades, I thought the price was a little steep compared to what I got from Cook Out and In-N-Out.

My third-favorite double cheeseburger came from Cook Out, a regional chain I visited in South Carolina.

cook out double cheeseburger

Cook Out big double burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

You can order a “big double” from Cook Out any way you wish, but I ordered mine with cheese, ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles. It cost me $4.99, not including tax.

The burger came wrapped in foil and featured two juicy patties.

cook out double cheeseburger

Cook Out big double burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It also had thick slices of fresh onion and large pickle spears layered on top of the burger.

For the price, I thought the burger was out of this world.

cook out double cheeseburger

Cook Out big double burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The cheese slices were thick and tangy, and the burger was perfectly moist and medium-rare. It was also very large, and, after already eating dinner, I struggled to get through more than a few bites, though I kept wanting to go back for more.

At an amazingly low price, this burger definitely earned the second-to-top spot on my ranking.

My second favorite came from 7th Street Burger, a smaller chain based in New York City.

7th street burger double cheeseburger

7th Street Burger double cheeseburger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

7th Street Burger is a small chain of quick-service burger restaurants with 19 locations in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, DC.

Since it opened in 2021, the chain has quickly grown a reputation for its no-frills approach to smash burgers, which feature crispy patties, gooey cheese, and the chain’s signature sauce.

I ordered a double cheeseburger, which comes with two beef patties, American cheese, onions, pickles, and house sauce on a Martin’s potato bun. It cost $11.21, excluding tax and fees.

There wasn’t much customization to do for this burger — you can’t order it with lettuce or tomato.

7th street burger double cheeseburger

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

However, this burger was perfect exactly as the chain designed it. The burger patties were delightfully crispy on the outside yet managed to stay juicy.

Melted slices of cheese oozed between the two thin, expertly griddled, and charred beef patties, all smothered in the chain’s signature sauce, a creamy, tangy take on classic burger sauce.

The burger was served on a pillowy-soft potato roll, which kept things simple.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

There were no lettuce or tomato slices to cut through the rich, savory indulgence, but that only added to the burger’s savory flavor. I didn’t miss the opportunity to customize my burger with additional toppings. It was probably the best smash burger I’ve ever had.

With pickles and onions to round out the flavor, the double cheeseburger offered a satisfying, nostalgic flavor that elevated the classic smash burger experience.

In my opinion, the best double cheeseburger I tried was the famous Double-Double burger from In-N-Out.

in n out double double, fries, and drink on blue background

In-N-Out Double-Double burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

It cost me $4.90, which I thought was an excellent deal for the large burger sitting in front of me. One of the first things I noticed was how thick the burger patties were — they were much thicker than other burgers I tried at a similar price point.

Most Double-Double burgers come with lettuce, tomato, onions, and spread.

in n out double double on blue background

In-N-Out Double-Double burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

To keep my burger similar to the other burgers I tried, I ordered it with onions, pickles, and spread, which I thought tasted similar to Thousand Island dressing.

The first thing I noticed about the In-N-Out burger was how juicy the burger patties were, followed by the incredible layers of cheese.

bitten into in n out double double on blue background

In-N-Out Double-Double burger.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

The cheese slices were perfectly melted and coated each part of the burger, something I couldn’t say about any other burger I tried.

The bun was perfectly soft and held everything together perfectly, while the special spread had my mouth watering for another bite.

Of all the burgers I tried, I thought the In-N-Out double cheeseburger packed the most flavor for the best price.

Erin McDowell/Business Insider

When it came to a double cheeseburger, the West Coast chain really nailed it. The burger was beyond flavorful, the perfect size, and, in my opinion, very good value for money.

The next time I’m in a state with an In-N-Out, I know where I’ll be filling my burger craving.
